"for a moment's thought on the spur"

"for a moment's thought on the spur"
~L. Page

for a moment's thought on the spur
blocking out the scratching blurring roughing riding screaming crunching maddening ka-bang
so much noise too many decisions
so much running from here to there too many collisions

where is the whispering small voice?
not a morning mercy to be found; are we listening?
not a day's end resting; when are we still?
be still and know that He is God

for a waking wandering worn and weary woman
there is still a still surrender for a small sound of soft splendor
finding here on the edge of chaos a summer sunset in mid-winter

gaze into the sky before our eyes become distracted
by another emergency of our own making
another excuse to abandon the Beloved of our souls

it's not the noise that rules us
it's the cacophony that hides us
so we are safe yet He pursues His own

to make us wake us shake us break us take us
so we will just be still and know that He is God.
